Notes for Installing EVA Foam Floor Tiles

2025-10-24

When installing EVA foam floor tiles, whether you are using EVA interlocking tiles or roll-out cross-linked polyethylene (CPE) Foam Flooring, you should leave space for expansion. In other words, always maintain a small gap between the flooring and the edges of walls or other objects.☺️

For installations along large wall surfaces, start from a corner of the room and lay the tiles so that there is at least a 1/4 inch gap between the tiles and the walls. If you live in a region with high temperatures and humidity (or if you are using underfloor heating), allocate more space to accommodate potential expansion. Then proceed to lay the tiles along the perimeter of the room piece by piece, fitting them together like puzzle pieces. When you reach the opposite wall, you may need to trim the tiles to fit snugly against the wall. This is a straightforward process because foam interlocking tiles can be cut with a sharp utility knife and a straightedge. Measure the remaining space between the last tile and the wall, keeping in mind the minimum 1/4 inch gap. Then, using a ruler as a reference, trim each tile to the appropriate size.👍

Island installation is a bit simpler, as there is no need to work along walls. Our HONLOY EVA foam tiles come with edge pieces that form a neat, finished edge. Place the tiles in the room, connect them together, and then install the edge pieces. When performing island installations, you don’t need to worry about foam expansion, because the tiles have enough space to expand and contract.🌈

A quality set of interlocking foam Puzzle Matstypically stays firmly in place, largely depending on the firmness (hardness) and thickness of the foam. If your foam is relatively soft, it’s better to choose a slightly thicker tile to prevent the interlocking sections from deforming easily. The interlocking foam tiles manufactured by HONLOY are designed with a certain level of hardness, and regardless of thickness, they stay stable as long as the floor is laid on a hard, flat surface. While most foam flooring mats have some degree of flexibility to accommodate minor surface irregularities, we still recommend installing them on a hard, level substrate.🎨
